From the judges: This was a clever way to offer alumni something fun to watch, and to integrate alumni in the world of film. Also great way to create a program without added expense.

Title of Entry: SFSU Alumni Movie Night
About this Entry: Shortly after the shelter-in-place order for San Francisco and the Bay Area, the Alumni Association pivoted towards multiple virtual activities to continue to engage its alumni base. One of these activities was an Alumni Movie Night on Friday, May 29th, 2020 where we invited alums to stream Pixar’s “Inside Out”, produced by academy award winning producer and alumnus, Jonas Rivera. Jonas Rivera has also worked on and won Oscars for the Pixar films “Up”, and “Toy Story 4”. The Alumni Association invited the San Francisco State University community to follow them on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) while streaming the film. Starting at 6:30 pm, the Alumni Association sent out fun facts about the film over social media, encouraging people to share posts and participate. Additionally, Jonas Rivera filmed a special introduction for the University, where he shared behind the scenes stories, addressed his time at the University, and elaborated on how those experiences led him to his current success. We invited our community of alumni, faculty and staff to stream the introduction from our YouTube page before streaming the film from their own devices.
