Title of Entry: UCLA Latino Alumni Association Día de los Muertos Digital Altar
About this Entry: In UCLA's centennial year the UCLA Latino Alumni Association created a digital altar for Día de los Muertos to honor members of the greater Latinx Bruin community who had passed. Día de los Muertos is a holiday that originated in Mexico where families traditionally create ofrendas, or offerings, in the form of altars and traditional dishes to honor their deceased family members. UCLA Alumni submitted photos of their loved ones, along with graduation years or affiliation to UCLA, so that they may be honored in a digital ofrenda display on UCLA Latino Alumni Association social media channels. The digital altar was successful in bringing together Latinx Bruins around the world in recognition of a cultural holiday widely celebrated in in the community.
