Title of Entry: UC Davis Portfolio Analysis – Streamlined, Transparent and Personalized

About this Entry: In the past two years UC Davis has added 20+ new campaign development officers, resulting in 18,000 major gift prospects being managed and 12 to 15 fundraisers per prospect researcher. On top of building portfolios for new development officers, our researchers have an ever growing amount of data to sift through.

Our previous way of providing analysis for mature portfolios took weeks of planning, data collection, and research. Each researcher had to bring their own methodology for analysis. We wanted to create a tool that could streamline this process by providing our researchers with a dynamic dataset and easy filtering to help them illuminate trends. A tool to help them focus their time on the prospects, the development officer’s strategy and rejuvenating portfolio health rather than spending time pulling data together. A tool that a researcher could use before, during, and after a portfolio analysis meeting to deliver answers, solutions, and actionable intelligence.

The PowerBI-based tool has resulted in a shorter timeline for the portfolio analysis process. Researchers have yearly meetings with each fundraiser who has been in their position for two years or more. The new tool provides transparency for our development officers, allowing for a more certain and practiced approach when it comes to managing their portfolio.
